Student-Centered Teaching:

I believe that each student has their own strengths to contribute, and as a teacher I want to emphasize, acknowledge and highlight these strengths. By creating differentiated instruction, and the appropriate adaptations when needed, an empowering environment will be fostered for my students. All students deserve a learning environment that works for them, and through a student-centered approach, each student will be supported to express themselves in their own unique way.

Student-centered teaching will encourage my students to find their own voice. Providing them with the right tools, information, and support, will empower them to create artwork specific to themselves and their story. My art classroom will be a space for risk taking, growth and creative fulfillment.

Art Advocacy:

Art is defined as the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination. I believe art education is an integral part of human growth and development. A comprehensive art education will give students the necessary environment to learn about art and how to express their own creative ideas.

In my class, I will provide my students with a strong background of technical art skills and art history. With this foundation of knowledge they will be able to understand and access their own creative process. Through a balance of knowledge and expression, my students will be able to utilize the self awareness found through this process, and apply it to all aspects of life. Creative thinking is becoming increasingly necessary in the work place, and giving students this foundation early on will contribute to their success beyond school.
