About a third of my watercolor paintings from this past year... I’ve really enjoyed this medium and working in this size as it’s allowed me a lot of freedom. This semester I’ve said multiple times that I need to make more work and then I realized I’ve done about 150 of these. It feels really gratifying to see them laid out next to each other, and shows how much I HAVE worked creatively the past year. I think that as artists we are always wishing we had time to do more, and I realized I have to be happy with what I’ve done, the path I’m on and continue to work hard and push myself. 🎨 🖌 #watercolor #process #art #arteducator #consistency #workhard #paint #expression #expressiveart

So many cosmic things happening @artmarketproductions this weekend... . . . Including, speaking with artist Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle about her ‘Unportraits’. (on the right) This body of work represents a number that startled her when she came across it: 64,000 missing black women. She wanted to find a way to represent these women in her work, and bring attention to this issue. She’s found her own intuitive process that allows the figure to emerge from her subconscious. It’s rare you actually get to talk to the artists at these things, so feeling really grateful for the opportunity. We also discussed how teaching informs her practice, how sometimes we create without knowing why, and at times, knowing what the end result will be. (Both equally important) and for her she is most interested in people’s process. (Me too) She uses handmade brushes to create these portraits and on a whim also had her class make their own.
